How a California franchisee drives success in his walk-in hair salons

We asked several franchisees what delivering a great customer experience means to them as an owner of a walk-in hair salon. Here’s what Great Clips franchisee Ray Solnik had to say.

 

RAY SOLNIK, a franchisee since 2009, owns 11 Great Clips salons in northern California.

 

“How do we deliver a great customer experience? By taking what Great Clips recommends, and then running with it!

 

I’m very analytical. I like numbers because they tell you what’s going on. At our company, we marry that with managers who work from the heart. We call that being Heart Smart. That’s especially true when we’re developing managers.

 

Great Clips tells us that one of the most important success factors for us as independent business owners is a great manager. So, we are maniacal about finding great talent and teaching them the Great Clips ways. That translates to what happens in the salons.

 

We also make sure we’re open at hours that are convenient to the customers and that we’re delivering a great haircut at a fair price.

 

We use discounts to entice customers to come to the salon when we might be slow. The customer is happy because they’re saving money and time. The stylists are thrilled because they’re busy and getting more tips. It’s one of the key ways we’ve grown our business.”
